Advanced Placement (AP)
AP Calculus AB and BC tutoring covering limits and continuity, applications of differentiation and integration, series, and how a free-response answer is written. One-to-one, 60 minutes a lesson, Kwun Tong or online.
Need AP Calculus tutoring? Classes are taught by Mr Wong, who holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics and Statistics from City University of Hong Kong (Distinction) and a BBA in Finance from the same university, a full-time tutor with five years of one-to-one and small-group teaching experience. He also teaches IB, A-Level and IGCSE mathematics.
Covering AP Calculus AB and BC, taught to the College Board course framework and its published scoring guidelines, with past free-response questions used throughout. In Kwun Tong or online, one hour a lesson. Students whose schools do not offer AP are welcome.
BC contains all of AB and adds series, parametric equations and polar coordinates. Which to take turns on the school’s timetable and the student’s algebra, and we weigh it up together in the first lesson.
Key topics: limits and continuity, the definition and rules of differentiation, rates of change, tangent lines, optimisation, related rates.
Key topics: definite and indefinite integrals, the fundamental theorem of calculus, area and volume, differential equations, slope fields.
Key topics: series and convergence tests, parametric equations, polar coordinates, vector-valued functions.
AP free-response questions are marked line by line: the theorem used, the calculation, and the conclusion put back into the context of the question. We mark against the published College Board guidelines, question by question, so the way of writing becomes settled and the questions a student can do turn fully into marks.
Students whose schools do not offer AP can enrol. The syllabus is planned from the beginning and worked backwards from the May examination date, and we go through the registration arrangements as well.
