Advanced Placement (AP)
AP Statistics tutoring covering sampling and experimental design, distributions, sampling distributions and inference, and the conclusion that has to be written back into the context every time. One-to-one, 60 minutes a lesson.
Need AP Statistics tutoring? Classes are taught by Mr Wong, who holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics and Statistics from City University of Hong Kong, graduating with Distinction — statistics is his own field. He is a full-time tutor who also teaches IB, A-Level and IGCSE mathematics.
Taught across the College Board’s four themes: exploring data, sampling and experimental design, probability and distributions, and statistical inference, with past free-response questions used throughout. In Kwun Tong or online, one hour a lesson. Students whose schools do not offer AP are welcome.
Key topics: describing distributions, outliers, bivariate relationships, regression.
This part of the course tests judgement: whether a study is an experiment or observational, how the randomisation was done, whether anything is confounded. We practise on real study scenarios so that students can give the reason behind every design choice.

Key topics: random variables, the binomial distribution, the geometric distribution, sampling distributions, the central limit theorem.
Covering confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. Every inference has conditions to be checked, so we practise the conditions, the calculation and the conclusion as three separate pieces, and the answer comes out complete.

The scoring guidelines ask for the conclusion in the terms of the question — "there is sufficient evidence that the mean weight at this plant is below the labelled value", not simply "reject the null hypothesis". That sentence has a settled shape and earns marks on every question that asks for one, so we practise it question by question.
A graphing calculator is allowed in the examination. Which steps may be done on it and which must be written out are taught alongside the content.

Yes. The algebra demanded is modest; the difficulty is in judgement and in how an answer is expressed. Strong mathematicians often lose marks in the conclusion, because they are used to writing only the mathematical result.
Yes, subject to the timetable. The two are approached quite differently, so if you take both we keep them in separate lessons rather than combining them.
