Primary English Tutoring

Need primary English tutoring? Classes are taught by Mr Wong, who holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics and Statistics from City University of Hong Kong, graduating with Distinction. He is a full-time tutor with five years of one-to-one and small-group teaching experience, and has taken a student’s English internal assessment results up substantially and into Band 1.

From P4 to P6, lessons follow the school’s own syllabus and the way its internal assessments are set, covering grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing and oral work, with notes and exercises matched to the school’s materials. Lessons are held in Kwun Tong and run 75 minutes.

Grammar and Vocabulary Foundations

At primary level, English marks usually rest on sentence structure. We build tenses, parts of speech, singular and plural, and subject–verb agreement one at a time, so that students write complete and accurate sentences. Vocabulary is built up from the texts and by theme, and always used in full sentences rather than memorised in isolation.

Reading Comprehension and Writing

Comprehension starts with recognising the question type, then locating the answer in the passage and writing it in the student’s own words. Writing begins with sentence variety and paragraph structure, then covers the common tasks — narrative, letters and picture composition. Every composition is marked line by line and rewritten to the feedback.

Internal Assessment and Transfer Examinations

The internal assessment follows the school’s own syllabus, so we prepare from that school’s progress, materials and past papers, shifting the emphasis before tests and examinations. A transfer examination is set by the school being applied to, with different question types and depth, and often an interview — Mr Wong has helped a P4 student transfer successfully into St Louis School (Primary Section) and knows how these papers are set and what the interviews ask.

Oral Work and Reading Aloud

Covering pronunciation, pace and the questions that commonly come up, so students can express themselves clearly in both school orals and transfer interviews.
