Hong Kong Secondary (HKDSE and Junior Forms)
Junior secondary mathematics, and HKDSE Mathematics Compulsory Part with Extended Part Module 1 (Calculus and Statistics) and Module 2 (Algebra and Calculus). One-to-one or a self-formed group, 75 minutes a lesson, Kwun Tong or online.
Need secondary mathematics tutoring? Classes are taught by Mr Wong, who holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics and Statistics from City University of Hong Kong (Distinction) and a BBA in Finance from the same university. He is a full-time tutor with five years of one-to-one and small-group teaching experience, and also teaches A-Level, IB, AP and IGCSE mathematics.
From S.1 through S.6, we teach junior secondary mathematics, the HKDSE Compulsory Part, and the Extended Part modules M1 (Calculus and Statistics) and M2 (Algebra and Calculus) end to end. In Kwun Tong or online, 75 minutes a lesson, with notes matched to the school’s progress and past-paper practice.
The algebra, equations, geometry and trigonometry of S.1 to S.3 are the tools senior mathematics draws on throughout. We follow the school’s pace while making those operations fluent, so that in the senior forms the time can go to the new material.
Key topics: factorisation, quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, geometric proof, trigonometric ratios.
The Compulsory Part covers a wide syllabus, and the marks largely rest on speed and accuracy. We confirm command of each topic in turn, then use past papers to build fluency in the calculation and judgement in the timing.
Key exam topics: functions and graphs, equations and inequalities, trigonometry, properties of circles, statistics and probability.
M1 (Calculus and Statistics) rewards reading a context and interpreting the result back into it. We start from the binomial theorem and the applications of calculus, then use past papers to practise how statistical inference is written up.
Key topics: the binomial theorem, applications of calculus, statistical inference.
M2 (Algebra and Calculus) rewards derivation and proof, where complete working is what earns the method marks. We build the way a proof is written step by step, then move into matrices and the harder calculus questions.
Key topics: mathematical induction, matrices, differentiation and integration, optimisation.
Mathematics accumulates, each layer resting on the one before. We begin with a topic audit to confirm command at every layer, then start from wherever would benefit most, so that the practice which follows turns into marks. Which module to take, and when to begin, can also be talked through at the trial lesson against the student’s level and where they are heading.

Both. M1 is Calculus and Statistics, M2 is Algebra and Calculus, and they are not approached the same way — tell us which you are taking when you enrol, or talk it through at the trial lesson if you have not decided.
Yes, and usually that is what should happen. We work backwards from the questions you got wrong to find which year the break is really in, and pick it up from there.
Yes. For a student at that level the lessons concentrate on the harder question types and on precision in answering, rather than repeating questions they can already do.
